OddsJam Results for September 2023

August was a good month using OddsJam, but September was OUTSTANDING!! I know this is just a positive swing for variance and that it will balance itself out. However, it is great to get a second consecutive positive month. It is what it is and, like those down months I’m bound to have, I’ll take it in stride and take the long view: profitable over the long run as long as I keep finding the +EV (and arbitrage and middle bets) using OddsJam.

Here is my OddsJam ‘Wordle’ for September 2023. (Side note: The 30th should be green. My best guess is a glitch because I’m in New Zealand, so something to do with the crazy time difference.)

September’s results were HUGE! The last week of September I even managed a full week of daily profits, something that I haven’t run into before, but look forward to doing again.

For September, I’m up 112 units (units are the minimum bet that I make). My profit margin per wager is 17.59%, which is great, although not as good as August – I simply placed way more bets. The 80% of bets that beat CLV is off the charts! The win rate is 51%, which is around the expected number, it just happens that I hit on some large bets that had a higher +EV, and missed on some of the smaller bets with a lower +EV. At 162 bets, I almost doubled my August numbers, and I still had two days without any bets.

Months like this are great, but we need to remember to keep the emotion out of it and just keep on rolling. The same will happen we I eventually have a down month, which there will be as we know how variance works. It is all part of the profitable sports betting journey. OddsJam makes finding these +EV bets, along with arbitrage and middle bets easy.

Week 2 of the NFL was great for the bankroll in the last week of September. I’m also noticing my win rate for starting pitcher strikeouts has been very good – I hope that can continue into the MLB playoffs. For most NFL games, I’m still just betting on player props. I’d rather have more variety in the best I’m placing, but I’ll take what I can get. NCAAF doesn’t have player props (at least not with the recommended filters), so that does help to balance things out.

Of course, for September, I was essentially at break-even for NCAAF. It really was MLB and NFL bets that drove profit for the month. Specifically, player strikeouts and player receptions dominated. OddsJam does make it very easy to look at your results in just about every way imaginable, which is fantastic.

My biggest concern at the moment is that the vast, vast majority of the bets I’m placing (and winning on) are all at a single book. Out of the five books that I use regularly (I’m looking to expand, but am limited with what books are available in New Zealand), I was only profitable at two for September – and one of those two only had a handful of bets placed.

If you are in North America, Europe, or Australia, this won’t be a problem for you as there are WAY more books available.

Some goals for October (and beyond) as I continue on this journey:

  • Place more bets. (This might be tricky as the MLB regular season finishes.)
  • Place more arbitrage bets. These are guaranteed profitable bets.
  • Try and place some middle bets. These are like lottery tickets. If you manage to hit it just right, you push on one side and get a full win on the other side.
  • Place some parlays – yes, parlays can be profitable. This goal is more about some odds boosts that are usually available for NBA games at some of the books.
  • Find more books with a consistent range of +EV bets to make. Diversification is a good thing in profitable sports betting.
  • Find more bets on soccer. When I used another service, soccer was way more popular than it is on OddsJam. It is offered, but to get the range that I used to I’ll have to use some custom filters.

So, I’m looking forward to October and working on those goals (some will be easier to hit than others). There is also the start of the NHL (October 10th) and NBA (October 24th) regular seasons. My past experience is that there are way more options for betting on NBA games than any other sport for the books I use. I hope to turn that into another boost for the bankroll.
