As mentioned in my first post, I have been using OddsJam for a few seasons now. So, it is worth asking how the past year has gone for me as a sports bettor. Well, I find nothing more convincing than actual data and OddsJam provides a ton of data about your bets.
Two of the most significant aspects are the profit margin per wager and how often you beat the closing line value (CLV). Here are my numbers for the past year.
Another spot to look at is the number of bets and winning percentage. With an edge, more bets results in more profit. Here are my number of bets and winning percentage over the past year.
Having stuck with this for a while, I can tell you a few things.
Finding and Edge
An edge of 3.75% per bet is significant. The more bets that you can find, the quicker you can grow your bankroll — compound growth is the eighth wonder of the world.
Closing Line Value
Beating the closing line tells a very clear story. This tells me that 78% of the time the bets I make with OddsJam are beating the bookies at their own game and I end up with an edge. A rate of 78% is high and you can certainly be very profitable with a lower CLV rate.
Bet Volume
The total number of bets of 1800+ is lower than it needs to be. As I mentioned here, I have had some other priorities over the past few years. With just over 1800 bets in the past year, I can tell you that there are months where I have no bets at all. Even in my most active months, I haven’t managed to bet every day. The average over a year is a shade of 5 bets a day. There are plenty of opportunities for way more bets to be placed.
Winning Percentage
Last, the percentage of bets won. To some, 49% might seem low. However, that all depends on the bets I’m making. If I am always betting on underdogs, sometimes long-shot underdogs, 49% would be a great winning percentage. Generally, I make wages that are close to the break-even point. Still, it took a while to get more comfortable making wagers with less favorable odds. But at the end of the day, if I have an edge (see the 3.75% above) then it doesn’t matter, and long term I will be profitable.
The beauty of OddsJam is that it finds the edge, tracks your bets, and provides a ton of other data so you can make sports betting a profitable endeavor.
