Making Money Daily: NJ Sports Bettor Reveals How He Went From Promo Hunter to 5-Figure Months with OddsJam

How profitable is arbitrage betting with OddsJam? Well JT from @GreenScreenBets has been at it for less than a year and is making thousands every month!

Today we are talking with JT and following along with his sports betting journey. Since starting back in September 2023, JT has been in the green every single day. Every. Single. Day. Solid evidence of what is possible with OddsJam.

JT is in his early 20s and an avid New Jersey sports bettor. His main gig is in the golf industry.

I don’t know about you, but if I were making the kind of money JT is sports betting in my early 20s, I would have been very happy and it would have set me up very well financially.

JT’s X( Twitter) handle, @GreenScreenBets, is not a coincidence! His highlights are nothing but green month after month after month!

Now that we have established how good JT is as a profitable sports bettor, let’s jump into the interview. You’ll quickly see JT is very knowledgeable and I’m sure you’ll appreciate his insight as much as I did.

Background

Q: What initially drew you to sports betting?

I have been a sports fan all my life so growing up in and around the games has always been something that I enjoyed doing. I don’t recall when I took up betting exactly but I always saw the promos that sportsbooks did giving away free money so I decided to capitalize on taking what I was being given.

Q: How long have you been betting, and how has your approach evolved over time?

I have been betting for a few years now but really started my arbitrage-specific journey in September of 2023. I started as a “promo hunter” and would just utilise all the bonus bets and deposit promos I would receive and maximize profit on them accordingly.

Then, as I learned the nuances of arbitrage betting, I scaled my betting from pre-game arb to live arb. I hit my first 5-figure month in January!

Month after month of GREEN!

Q: What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as a sports bettor? How did you overcome them?

Two main challenges.

Number one was getting hooked on live arb bets. Especially in basketball, the game moves so quickly that sometimes lines move quickly as well. I limited my exposure to risk by starting my live arb betting journey by only betting during timeouts, dead balls and quarter/half changes to minimise the potential for unexpected line movement. Also learning when different books stopped offering lines (ie Fanduel pulls first-half total points lines in CBB with around 4-5 minutes remaining) helped me avoid getting closed out of bets when arbing.

Number two is something all profitable bettors face, and that is limits. I am limited at every book in NJ so having apps like Sporttrade, Prophet Exchange, Fliff and now Prime Sportsbook allow me to bet with more volume however with much less ROI.

Strategy

Q: Can you walk us through your typical process for finding and placing a bet?

I have long used the OddsJam arbitrage page to find arbitrage bets and, more recently, used the one-click bet feature to take me directly to my bets. It was always more of a “show me what to do and where to go” process and my job was to just go and do it.

When arbing, I didn’t care what exactly the bet was or who it was it was purely based on the numbers (the odds). Although, when I place any +EV bets (value bets) or bet boosts I typically like to tail guys I follow and work with on X (Twitter) or if I make any myself I just try to find multiple bets with the best lines on the same book.

Q: What are some of the key factors you consider when making a bet?

Like in my previous answer, as an arb bettor, the numbers are strongly what matters to me in terms of ROI. However, I do like to consider correlation when making bets or SGPs on books that still allow for such correlation to take place. I also like to factor in news that just breaks before it gets baked into line movement.

Q: Risk management is crucial in sports betting. How do you manage your bankroll and avoid chasing losses?

Tough question to ask for me because since September I have never had a losing day. I was close only a handful of times on hooks (when you’ve placed one side of an arb, but then get locked out on the other side) that turned out favorable for me.

However, I would say to people that if you develop a plan that long term should be profitable you need to stick to it and not get hung up on days of bad variance. Just like a gym routine or what diet you have, sticking with the plan consistently is what yields results.

More of my favorite color!

Success

Q: What are some of your most memorable wins (or learning experiences) as a sports bettor?

I think the multiple hooks I have hit were nerve-racking but also relieving when they hit. My absolute favorite memories of wins were by far hitting middles. Middles are when you place an arbitrage bet where both bets can win. Here is a great middle that I hit!

Hitting a Middle is AWESOME, and PROFITBLE!

Q: You are a profitable sports bettor. What are you hoping to do with your winnings?

Invest! I have done multiple things with it such as: buy crypto; buy stock; buy precious metals; as well as add to my HYSA (high yield savings accounts) and other forms of interest accumulating endeavours (Treasury Bonds). It’s all about making the money work for you.

Q: Where do you see the future of sports betting heading? Are there any new trends or opportunities you’re excited about?

I don’t know exactly, I think I am ending up back where I started, promo hunting. The 2024 betting landscape is tougher than it has ever been so the promos can not even hold a candle to what it was like even just a year ago. Because of us entering a slower season of sports and having increased limits I have definitely scaled back my trading of sports since the winter.

I dabble in +EV when I see good spots for it and hope to take advantage of bad lines whenever I can. I have found a little success in live betting moneylines for higher limits but lower ROIs and hope to find continued success in that with tennis and baseball this summer.

Q: For someone interested in getting started with sports betting, what’s the most important advice you would give them?

I have friends who sports bet and I have tried relentlessly to get them on board with my system of making easy profit with arbitrage betting. However, it often falls on deaf ears. They value the risk of potentially winning a bet more than they do winning money, which for them is a net negative proposition because they often don’t even line shop (comparing odds at different books to get the best odds for a given bet).

So for anyone getting started, I would at the very least recommend they get every sportsbook they have access to in their state. Utilize the signup bonuses to maximize their return on it and then if they want to bet make sure they are getting the best odds they can. If you see Lakers ML on DraftKings at -120 but it is on Fanduel at -108 you better be placing your bet at Fanduel if you have access to both. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t be getting the best-priced line possible.

Nothing but GREEN!

Thanks
