Welcome to week 24 of a 52-week account of my experience over the year with OddsJam.

Recap
Week 24 was a bit sideways. I ended the week down $48, which wasn’t bad. Friday was the day that pulled me off the winning streak of a few weeks in the green. I’m also back at work full-time, so my availability to pull up OddsJam and place some bets has been greatly reduced, which means fewer bets placed. That is all part of the game with this side hustle, but I’m still consistently profitable long-term which is exactly how value betting (+EV betting) is supposed to work.
I’ve continued the trend of more bets on slight favourites, but have started to expand into the slight underdogs a bit more often again. Looking at the lines of other books before making bets has been helpful as well to make sure the bets I’m placing are looking good and have room to move and still leave me with an edge.
For January, I’m essentially flat. We’ll see what the next few days can do to help finish strong and in the green.
Looking back at results since I started this blog in August that has stood out and might be surprising: I’ve had five straight months of profit! Let me state that again, FIVE STRAIGHT MONTHS OF PROFIT! More proof that value betting (+EV betting) is profitable long term.
Not every month is a ‘best ever’, like November. However, the tools from OddsJam and use of the Kelly Criterion are successful methods if you want to be a profitable sports bettor.
NFL (such great playoff games), NHL, and NBA are all available for bets. There are also a ton of NCAAB games every week. Now is a great time to start your own profitable sports betting journey! Highlights
For the third straight week, I’ve hit the biggest edge I found for the week. Those edges have been bigger and bigger! Last week was over 18%. This week was almost 36%! That’s right, a value bet (+EV bet) of almost 36%!
Even better was the fact that this 36% edge also happened on the biggest longshot I landed for the week. Unbelievably, I had Kevin Durant hit on over 2.5 threes in the Bulls-Suns game. I placed the bet at +165 odds (2.65 decimal) and the closing line was -111 (1.9 decimal). Rare to get such a huge edge with value betting (+EV betting). My only regret is that my bet on the particular book was limited. Still, a good result.
The best odds I missed this week were at -200 odds (1.5 decimal) when the Golden Knights-Devils game had over 7 goals. I know the Devils have struggled for consistent goaltending and that the Golden Knights are without a few key players, but to get to 11 goals (Devils won 6-5) is a bit much!
Results
I was down $48 for the week. Not bad, especially considering Friday didn’t go my way. I didn’t get any bets in on Tuesday because other priorities needed my attention. I wouldn’t have it any other way. This is a side hustle, and a profitable one, but with so many things competing for my time, I’m going to miss a day here and there.
I’m back to work full-time too, so I’m not going to get in as many bets as I have been. I’d like to get some extra bets in, but with the time difference (I’m in New Zealand), 7pm on the US East Coast is 1pm here (the next day too), so I can’t just disappear for a bit to place those bets. I’ll get a few in while I’m at work, but not at the same rate. If you’re in the US, this time difference won’t be a problem for you at all, and you’ll have a lot more opportunities for profit!
The Numbers
I’m still hammering that closing line value (CLV) at 78%. Taking healthy edges certainly helps. However, I am very confident that OddsJam and their algorithms to identify an edge are rock solid. The win rate for the week was 51%, just below where it needed to be for a very good week. I missed a lot this past week by a single point/goal/rebound/assist/etc. which hurts, but it also tells me I’m on the right track.
My profit margin for the week was -3.92%, so only a slight slowdown. A few bets go my way and this would have been another green week.
I had a similar turnover to last week, with just over $1200 wagered this week. I really do need to get that number to creep up. I’m still working on finding more books that offer edges. It might be that I need to add four or five books that offer the occasional edge to find more bets to make. I know OddsJam is always looking to add more books. I placed 69 bets for the week, below where I’d like it to be. Another work on.
Five months in a row profiting with OddsJam! Six in a row will depend on what happens the last few days of January. I’m hopeful that I’ll finish January strong and in the green!
