OddsJam Results: Week 38

Welcome to week 38 of a 52-week account of my experience over the year using OddsJam.

You can read about last week here: OddsJam Bettings Results for Week 37 of 52.

Recap

Another week down on the journey, another week in the win column. Amazing how consistent +EV betting with OddsJam can be, provided you have the right books and can get enough volume.

April finished partway through the week and it was a strong month overall. I’d love to see that continue into May.

Week 38 had another 5 of 7 days in the green. What was even better this week was how small those losses were on the red days.

It is easy to enjoy +EV betting with OddsJam when you are experiencing positive variance. The trick of the long-game that we are playing (and winning) against the books is to keep that level head when things aren’t going your way.

MLB is in full swing with a ton of games to bet on every day! The WNBA has started, providing more opportunities for great bets!

Highlights

The biggest edge for the week was in the Knicks-76ers game where I had Joel Embiid for over 2.5 three-pointers. I placed this at +250 odds (3.5 decimal) for an edge of just over 40%! The closing line value was +147 (2.47 decimal) which is just a crazy edge. It was a miss, but those edges do not come along every day. (Well, they do pop up quite frequently with OddsJam.)

The biggest edge I managed to hit this week was a tidy 8.75% edge in the Timbervolves-Nuggets game with Karl-Anthony Towns finishing with more than 2.5 assists. (NBA Assists have been an incredibly profitable bet to make all season long.) I placed this bet at +125 odds (2.25 decimal) and it closed at +105 (2.05 decimal). A tidy profit.

The biggest long shot this week was a bit weird. I placed the bet at -133 odds (1.75 decimal) when it had an edge of over 6%. Unfortunately, the line moved against me (and them some) closing at +151 (2.51 decimal). This makes this bet one of the rare (1 in 5, on average) bets where I didn’t beat the closing line. It still hit, and based on the closing line, this was my biggest long shot for the week.

The best odds I missed on this week was in the Magic-Caviliers game when Caris LeVert kept his assists under 2.5. I put this one in at -139 odds (1.72 decimal) with an edge of 3.3%. It closed at -155 (1.65 decimal). Not the worst miss, so things must have been going well this week.

(Just a reminder that I’m in New Zealand, so everything is a day ahead.)

I finished the week up $416. Another five out of seven in the green! And what a bonus that the two red days were minimal!

The Numbers

The numbers were absolutely solid for the week. Like last week, I almost would have expected more profit given solid numbers.

I finished the week with a 50% win rate, a drop from the amazing 56% I had last week. This is more in line with expectations given the closing lines I’m seeing on my bets.

I had a slightly busier week with 109 bets placed. This is a volume game, so I’m happy to get more bets down as I know, long-term, it will increase my profits.

I had a very healthy profit/wager number coming in at just over 16%! It is rare to see a number this high.

I crushed the closing line again at 87% for the week. Between this week and last week, I couldn’t ask for better CLV numbers. I’m certainly getting an edge on the books.

I had a turnover of just under $2600. I’m noticing that my average bet size is creeping up. That is a direct result of some positive variance and finding more edges at books that accept larger wagers, which is always nice when you are hitting.

My Thoughts

I haven’t had many weeks quite this good. Everything seemed to be going in my favor. I know that this is positive variance and I expect I’ll pay the price for that down the road with some negative variance. All just part of the game when you are +EV betting daily with OddsJam.

I’ve just closed out my ninth straight month in the green (April was a good month) and I hope it continues. Only March needed to be rescued so far, and I was fortunate that it played out the way it did.

With a little more cash flow at the moment, I’m looking for more books to work with. It might not seem worth it for the few bets, but I’m curious to find out. Over time, there might be enough there for tidy profits. And there are always the promotions that the different books run – make sure you take advantage of those.

For now, I’m still enjoying this side hustle and I plan to finish out the year as planned. I just hope I don’t see too much of a drop-off over the next little while with fewer NBA prop bets to make. NBA has been so profitable that I might be a bit lost without those tidy bets to make.
